07/04/2007 | I assure you sir, drug companies do not make commercials. Drug companies make drugs. These organizations lack the proper videographic equipment necessary to make a decent commercial. Since they mostly employ people skilled in medical science, I doubt that there are many employees with filmmaking experience in their ranks. I suspect that instead of pouring money into making commercials, drug companies do business in the highly speculative, regulated, and extremely competitive pharmaceutical marketplace. I would also go out on a limb and say that they charge a product price commesurate with the amount of risk they are exposed to. But what do I know? I may just turn on the TV one of these days and see 50 line dancing biophysicists singing about how Ty-D-Bowl turns your toilet water blue. I can't help but wonder who makes the asprin I need after watching such a spectacle.

11/27/2005 | Perhaps you didn't know this, but it takes literally millions upon millions of dollars to research each of those drugs that are prolonging people's lives. Whenever people are buying that pill, they're always paying for the money it took to make that pill to begin with.
Is that fair? Sure! Otherwise it'd take decades longer for these drugs to be developed or discovered on accident, if even ever. Money is an excellent driving force to get people to do things. Sometimes great things.
