Not among my favorites, but easily the greatest of the Southern rock bands, of which they were pretty much the first. Their early pre-Allman Brothers work, as The Allman Joys and The Hourglass, was below average psych and blues rock, with few decent moments, but then they rather miraculously turned themselves into a smoking blues/ jam band with a touch of country at the tail end of the 60's, garnering a solid reputation, before becoming superstars with the release of their famous Fillmore East set. Sometimes they can be dull on subsequent albums, but they're usually at least intriguing.
