My favorite album by them is 1971's Maggot Brain, which features great guitar work. Clinton took the flashiness, great musicianship, and oddness of acts like Hendrix and Sly and the Family Stone to a logical conclusion with theatricality including spaceships, weird costumes, props, etc. All of this was done with an endearingly strange sense of humor, too. He was influenced by rock acts like Cream too, and, allegedly, there are joint recordings that Parliament / Funkadelic made early on with Iron Butterfly! The results could be terrible, but if that's true, I'd love to hear them. A very important and incredibly influential act.
