Believe it or not, I actually thought the intensity of this year's race was relatively high considering that it was mostly in the US. But there is no question that a foreign race offers the greatest intensity (flashback to Nancy and Emily in India), usually better challenges, and certainly better locations (the Salt Lake City Public Library? I could do better than that in my sleep). It also goes along with my idea of finishing in a foreign city. If they ever do the family edition again, they should give serious consideration to going out of the US more often.
