Spartan SPR310 4

So Far So Good.

However, I've only put 200 (exactly) through it so far, trap shooting. I bought it on impulse (12 ga, 28", O/U) from a "Sports Authority", a chain sporting goods store, because when I picked it up, it just felt balanced and I was able to draw it comfortably. I didn't research Baikal and the Remington Spartan SPR310 until afterward.

Yes, the action is a bit stiff, but it's brand new and I don't mind that personally.
Yes, the ejectors work quite well; I plan to deactive them for the next shoot out of preference.
Yes, it's heavy, but I'm a man and can handle it.
Yes, it's "basic", but that's exactly what I like about it. I also own a Beretta (silver pigeon model), but I'm having fun with this one for now.

Overall- I think it's a really good gun for the money... but ask me in a year to be sure. I've only had it 2 weeks. I'm a bit concerned about the comments on this message board regarding the choke tubes. So far, no problems with mine. Fingers crossed.

Spartan SPR310 4

I Just purchased the 20 ga., nickel receiver version of the SPR 310. I am very impressed with the gun overall. It has a very smooth swing, and the barrel select feature is very nice. The action is stiff but its breaks in nicely after a little oil. Out of the box, you may want to have an old towel handy cause they go heavy on the grease. The shell ejectors are a little strong for the first couple rounds, but they can be tuned down. I would suggest this if you reload your own shells. The first time I opened my gun I hit the guy standing 8 feet behind me with my spent shells. The only real knock i have on the gun is the bead at the end. It is very small, and i have a tough time picking it up during my swing. However, an EZ Hit Fiber Optic bead is a very good addition to this gun. I got it for $425 with tax. I am very happy with its overall performance. It is a great gun for anyone looking for an economical o/u. the four chokes it comes with are not amazing but they work just fine. It comes with a cylinder, imp. cylinder, modified, and full. If your a serious skeet and or trap shooter i would advise a skeet choke. It's a plane looking gun but has the last laugh when you have all the birds.

I shoot left handed and have spent a lot of money on several different types of guns. hands down, this better for me than anything else I own. In fact, I now have a 12 ga SPR310 and a 20 ga SPR310, the later of which preforms far better for me than anything else when shooting skeet. I use the 12 ga. for hunting. My only complaint is that at first the action is stiff, and it takes a little extra force to break the gun open. Also, it would be nice to have a slicker way to select the barrel, but these are very minor concerns. I would highly recommend these guns to anyone looking for a very functional and budget priced O/U.

I just finished my first season with my 20g Spartan 310 o/u and I couldn't be happier with it. I've had it at the range and pheasant hunting and its worked without a problem. Great bargain at $399.

...not so impressed with mine. purchase SPR 310 in 16 guage in December of '05. First quail hunt out of the box, choke in the bottom barrel was completely destroyed after less than 75 rounds.

NOT USER ERROR!!

Local gun smith cleaned the barrel threads and pronounced "good to go". First Dove hunt after repair. Same problem. Maybe its the chokes, maybe its the barrell.

Who cares?

Shipped gun for "warranty work" somewhere in Florida on 7-Sept-06.

We'll see....

In the mean time, this coupled with a similarly poor, disappointing experience with a Stoeger Condor leads me to (now, finally) believe those I used to consider gun snobs who consistanly recommend a Red Label or Citori.

When I recieve the gun back, repaired or not, I intend to trade and add cash after locating a well cared for, used Red Label 20 Guage.

I love and would prefer my statter gun shooting in 16 guage. As yet its not available by Ruger, to the best of my knowledge.

Suggestion for those considering "Budget Sensitive" U/O's by any manufacturer.......

DON'T.

Remeber that old joke about continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different outcome?

Well, let my experience be your teacher. Save a little extra dough and buy quality the first time. When I add up what I spent on both guns, I could have bought one good one.

Happy Hunting

I'm disappointed with the Sporting model and will return it. The rear sight is off-center and lower barrel shoots low and to the left.

I recently bought a 12 gauge Spartan SPR310S. This model has blued barrels with a nickel plated steel receiver. The stock is oiled walnut. The gun was very easy to assemble. It was a little tight to begin with, but with some oil and use it now opens and closes with ease. The ejectors can be adjusted to either eject or extract spent shells. When in the eject mode they throw the shells a good three feet behind you. The gun is a joy to shoot. One might expect a good bit of recoil with this gun, but it is lighter than the recoil of my Browning A5. The trigger is crisp and breaks cleanly. My only dissapointment with the gun is the poor quality of the chokes I received. Initially the chokes were difficult to screw in and out and I managed to bend the IC choke. After market chokes are a necessity if you are going to be dilligent in cleaning and maintaining the gun. Over all I am very pleased with the gun. For the money you can't beat the quality and shootability.

I recently purchased a 12 gauge Field model with a 28" barrel. It came with 4 chokes (C, IC, M, F), a choke tool, and a useless gunlock (plastic piece of junk). Gun was easy to assemble, and the parts fit together very well. The break action was difficult at first but improved greatly with cleaning and oiling. There were no blemishes on the bluing or the stock. The auto-ejectors toss the empties a few feet. There is no engraving or scrollwork on the receiver, and the wood is not what I would call fancy. So far, a very solid, functional gun, and very cheap ($379 usd - retail). For those who don't know, the Spartan 310 is a Baikal IZH-27. It used to be imported by EAA, but now is imported by Remington, through Spartan Gunworks.
