Private industry has to make a profit, so it can't do it. We taxpayers don't have to make a profit; we choose to subsidize it with our tax dollars because it benefits society in many different ways, and those benefits far outweigh the costs.

When did we all buy in to the concept that private industry sucks at this . . . but the government can do it well? Did you need any examples?

 | CanadaSucks (50) 12/01/2005 | . . .please, please, please do something to alleviate the traffic in DC. No more roads. For the last time, kids- new roads do not get rid of traffic- the new roads just fill up with cars. I'd pay money if I could ride the metro to work. . .(1) gas, (2) parking, (3) time lost in traffic, and (4) wear and tear on my car are much, much, higher than the cost of public transportation. It's an investment that doesn't give instant gratification- a concept Americans don't understand very well.
