He should be honored for more then just traffic, the band people know the least about for winwood's long winding career. Still while his 80s hits are terrific and his voice is amazing, those hits were not too influential and are very dated these days. Now I find their datedness quite charming and enjoy them for sounding so 80s. But for people allergic to 80s production, Winwood's 80s career is going to turn them off. A long shot for the HOF!

I think a case could be made for honouring his lifetime acheivement with Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith and a decent but not spectacular solo career. But like Pete Townsend or Robert Plant, I don't think his solo work stands up on its own were it not for the context of the bands they fronted. Then again, I don't think Paul McCartney's or George Harrison's solo work stands up on its own either.

I'm surprised I'm the 1st one to give Steve Winwood 5 stars. He may not be as prolific a solo artist as many others but each one of those albums have some pretty amazing material ("Roll With It" and "Back In The High Life"). He is not only a brilliant singer and a gifted keyboardist but an underrated guitarist as well. And if that's not enough to convince you, maybe his work in Traffic (already inducted), Spencer Davis Group (he was the lead singer and penned their 2 hits "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm A Man") and Blind Faith might.

Winwood doesn't have enough to justify a solo induction, which is why Traffic is in (to reward him).
