01/22/2006 | Much more intelligent than people realize or give him credit for. His rise to superstardom had been planned and is part of a career he's been driven to succeed in. Listen to Stern talk about politics and you realize he's quite brite - he reads The New York Times, keeps up on current events, has a clear opinion on issues and well defined arguments for and against things. He's an excellent businessman as well. His move to Satellite Radio is a great one as Satellite is the Radio of the Future. Howard took much of his salary options in Stock on Satellite. He also set up a 24-hour News Network dedicated to himself. It's a very smart move - it keeps him constantly in the News, It feeds his ego, and it sets up a battery of built-in defenders should anyone decide to take a public shot at him. Brilliant!
