Breaking out of my Hunnic combination heathen and Calvinistic past, I have been taking Catholic religious instructions from the Jesuit Fathers. I went to a Latin High Mass on Christmas Eve. What a beautiful, historical, and spiritual event. I see why Catholicism has persisted these last 2000 years.

We always go to church the night before Christmas to the traditional Midnight Mass (although it takes place at 10 p.m.). We go to my mom's old Catholic church (although I'm a Baptist) and participate in the candlelight service while "Oh Holy Night" reverberates throughout the church.
Being a Baptist in a Catholic church feels weird (even though I've been to several Catholic church services in my life) but it's an interesting experience and I find Papal history to be interesting.

The house of God... what a great place to be to celebrate His birth.

If you aren't going to church on Christmas, what exactly are you celebrating? Call me close-minded or bigoted if you want, but I find it rather annoying and somewhat disrespectful when very vocal atheists "celebrate" Christmas. For me, it just isn't Christmas unless I've been to church. My family typically goes to Mass on Christmas Eve, but I have to say that I prefer going to Mass rather early on Christmas morning. The church isn't quite as packed, and it tends to be a more peaceful experience.

Haven't done this since I was dating my old girlfriend while I was in law school. Her family was Catholic so it was sort of a prerequisite. I enjoyed it. Midnight mass was interesting. I remember first getting an inkling of the understanding of the term "god fearing". The church we attended may be a thing of the past. It was located in East New Orleans.
