Because of a general lack of creativity, fruitcake has received a bad rap. Many cultures have actually found a use for these 'things'. For instance, Canadians claim that they make a nice insulation for their igloos and a firm, warm floor to crawl on. Scottish midgets excel at fruitcake tossing contests. The DOD buys a ton of this stuff. They call it Kevlar. I've saved mine to make a nice, dry path from my porch to my car. In spite of all of the reports, many mob victims have been found at the bottom of the East River, with fruitcakes strapped to them. It's those green cherries that has everyone stumped...

Just like great-great-great-grandma used to make -- wait -- she DID make it!

I don't understand fruitcake at all. I don't understand how the makers of fruitcake feel safe at night knowing that their manufacturing addresses are printed on the fruitcake labels....

I wonder how many times that people have gotten the idea to re-gift their fruit cake. I bet you it's happened more than people realize.

I simply don't eat it. Never liked it. Never cared for it.

(chorus) "Away, away, with rum, by gum, Rum by gum, rum by gum, Away, away, with rum, by gum, The song of the Temperance Union! We never eat fruitcake, because they use rum. And one little bite turns a man to a bum. Can you imagine a sorryier sight? Than a man eating fruitcake until he gets tight!" (repeat chorus)

Does anyone actually like fruitcake?

Fruitcake gets an unfairly bad rep, I think. Granted some of them taste funny.. and they're often as hard as rock. (That's probably because they've been passed down or "regifted" from one person to another.) To be fair, however, some fruitcake tastes pretty good. Good for dunking in milk too.

Tis the season to forgive our in-laws for the way they act.

I can't get enough of the stuff at Christmas time, especially my favourite, West-Indian Black Cake - the rum, brandy and black currants turn it black hence the name. Its sooooooooo good with Tesco's courvoisieur brandy cream, hmmmm.

A good fruit cake is like heaven on earth and I am not talking a about the gelatin mass that some folks pass out. I am talking about a cake with fruits in it and some times nuts, but there is actually cake in it a not just a hardened gel.

My aunt sends us fruitcake every year, and it's not that bad.
