Katz is a must-see destination for any tourist visiting New York City. Besides being the site where Harry met Sally, they served the most scrumptious pastrami sandwiches and mouth-watering pickles. I have fond memories of my father taking me here as a young child.

food might be good, i dont know. i've attempted this joint twice. both times overcrowded. you get a ticket or something and stand in line w/all the other folks. it's like a communist bread line. not worth it.

I consider Katz's to be the mutha(momella) of all deli's. It's been around since 1888-exactly where it belongs,on the corner of Houston and Orchard in the lower eastside, where its outlasted all the other delis in the area. While I don't eat meat out(unless it's kosher),everybody,I know who does, digs it. At a time when you can sue McDonald's for pouring hot coffee on yourself;that wouldn't work here.In fact, this is probably where the following joke originated:Customer:Waiter, there's a fly in my soup. Waiter:Well, how much soup can a fly drink?

I first ate here in 1978, and have been coming back, maybe once or twice a month, ever since. Far superior to the Second Avenue Deli, and the Carnegie and Stage? Fuhgetaboutit!!! The best pastrami going (tip the counterman making the sandwich and you'll end up with enough meat on the bread for three people) and the pickles are the real thing. The noisy atmosphere and the tacky decor harkens back to an earlier time in NYC before the yuppies took over. And the neighborhood has vastly improved over the past ten years, so don't let the warning posts here dissuade you.

My English vote goes to Katz

Katz deserve five stars for their delicious pastrami sandwich and pickles. This is NYC's best restaurant.

Katz's may be famous, but it's out of the way and the neighborhood is a bit seedy. If you want a really good pastrami sandwich go to the Second Avenue Deli.

I'm now a card carrying vegetarian but I do remember Katz's corned beef and it WAS very good.

Tourists find the Carnegie and Stage because they just don't know better ... Katz's is an institution, with the best pastrami, french fries and knockwurst you will find anywhere. Make the trip downtown and enjoy!

The pastrami is absolutely the best ever. I have lived in New York for 23 years and their is nothing better than Katz. Only drawback is its neighborhood but I think it only adds to the whole experience.
