If they're a good teacher and a good example, then by all means, yes.

As an employee at a school, I have observed that some of them are heroes. Others are merely lazy or burned out and keep coming back each year because the Union keeps their job safe. The losers will remain employed and always see an increasing salary, despite their lackluster performance. So while some teachers truly are heroes, not all of them would fall into this category in my opinion.

Both of my parents were teachers and started out in the 1930's. I think both made about $800 a year! Those were hard times, but they stuck to it, and they made America. Without the teachers in the public schools, this country would have taken a nose dive a lot sooner than it is now.

an almost four. over the years I remember some very good teachers when I was growing up. some stuck in my mind for fond memories. along with a couple of bad apples. Same goes for my two kids. my daughter graduated a few years ago and she had some great teachers, she liked and we were glad she had. like me, there were a handful who either should not have taught or maybe retired years ago. My son is graduating this year. he has some special needs. he has had some wonderful teachers who really have cheered him on. we have been very grateful to them. sadly there were a few who I wish he never had. {especially in middle school}but for the most part between all of us there have been some terrific influences in our lives because of them. true they are underpayed, and sometimes do not get the appreciation they deserve. I try and remember the good ones that make this profession one to be proud of.

Teachers effect so many lives and have a profound impact on may individuals. It's a shame our society does not value teachers as they do in Japan and some European countries.

Anyone with the nut to take the low-paying job of teacher (and those who take the really underpaid job of special-ed teacher) deserves better then what they currently get, and the aides that help them get dumped on even more. Most aides are part time with no benefits, even when they clock over 35 hours a week. Teaching the next generation is a noble profession, and it's a shame that teachers are not given the tools they need to do their job, and none of the recognition they deserve.

Yeah, they are tragic heros. America's yuppie parents give them no respect, take away their powers of discipline, force the school boards to always side against them, and now to be good teacher today, you have to be the students' friends... Ridiculous, give the teachers back the power, let them physically discipline the students, and maybe our kids will actually do something meritorious in school...give them some proper math and science textbooks and watch the Asians and Indians squirm as American students actually earn science degrees again.

I don't have the stomach for it. Saw the way my mother, a teacher of 30 years, was treated. Teacher bashing has become a matter of fashion in modern politics.

The occupation is one of honor. Are teachers all heroes, I fear not.

Most are and they give much more than they receive.

Far too broad a category to define so readily. Arguably, some are. Equally arguably, many are not.
