Too many winners of this prestigious honor fail miserably in the NFL for me to get too stiff about it. The Cardinals drafted a Heisman winner and he's backing up old man Warner right now.

I don't care for the heisman the way it is now. This award should be given at the end of the post season and should be a little less political, but I doubt I will ever get my way on this one.

The Heisman Trophy is overblown. The main problem is that it supposedly honors the best player in college football. That is not the case. The Heisman goes to the best offensive player. Bruce Smith, LT, Reggie White and scores of other collegiate gridiron contributors of inestimable value (to their teams) were never even seriously in the running because they played on the "wrong side" of the ball.

My only complaint is that I think it should be awarded AFTER all the bowl games. The Davy O'Brien, Maxwell, etc. awards can be awarded after the regular season, but the Heisman Trophy should be awarded after everything is over. For example, if the Heisman was handed out after the 2005-2006 Rose Bowl, Texas QB Vince Young would have gotten it; not USC RB Reggie Bush. Let's see how the Heisman candidates play in the big games before we give them such a big award.
