Yes, George W. Bush is an optimist. Whether or not you agree with him or his policies, it can be fairly stated that what has sustained him throughout his political career is the notion that anything can be accomplished if you set your mind to it. However, I do think that sometimes he does put on rose colored glasses. I understand that politically it is important not to be all doom and gloom. That was Jimmy Carter's mistake. In the late 1970's, he made the claim, which was seen by many as the truth at the time, that America's best days were behind her. A president should be honest with the people, but neither should he talk down to them. Bush's folksy style along with his optimism has been his saving grace. However, again, he does put on the rose colored glasses at times. We went to war in Iraq based on the premise that the reconstruction effort would be easy and that the intense factional sectionalism would not be a problem. Considering the history of Iraq, it was foolish to think otherwise. Being an optimist with rose-colored glasses can be very dangerous if taken to an extreme.

He's (along with Reagan and Bush41) are the reasons why I'm skeptical about my country. Where is Carter and Clinton when you really need them?

He seems to be quite optimistic. Of course, when people on the other side of the aisle are CONSTANTLY griping and complaining, to the point they refuse to agree with anything, a lot of people can seem optimistic.

More than any other personal characteristic, I believe his optimism helped him win re-election. Contrasted with Kerry's schizophrenic gloom-and-doom, Bush looked and sounded like a guy with a can-do attitude . . . and a clue.

I don't know what sort of highly optomisitc, inferior universe he lives in.

Maybe in his own little dream world...go back to sleep.

His line, You can be optimistic and realistic at the same time was a moment of sheer brilliance and is also completely truthful. Thusfar, his optimism has proven successful--the economy is great, Al Qeada is in shambles, Afghanistan just recently had a democratic election and Iraq's liberation from the forces of evil is almost complete!
