There were a lot of great matchups in these bowls, but this one was amazing. This is one of the better matchups in all of sports over the last few years.

Not just a great matchup, but a well-deserved win for Texas. Practically every news and sports outlet except for Fox Sports spent hours on end prior to the game polishing USC's knob and gushing over the "three-time national champions," despite the fact that the BCS trophy belonged solely to LSU the year of the supposed split championship, and that this year's game hadn't even kicked off. ESPN even had the gall to run a one-hour special about USC's third championship right before kickoff. I was not disappointed in how the game proceeded from there, and how the game was eventually won. A single champion was crowned after four hard-fought quarters of football, and Texas walked off the field with a 5-point win and the BCS trophy, won fair and square. USC's dreams and the mass media's delusions of a "three-peat" are done and over. I might normally fork horns down during the regular season, but this year I desired a deserving champion, especially with all the media slant. Texas delivered, and I am happy for them. Now to go back to horns down when Texas comes into Norman next year. :)

So much for the "defense wins championships" nonsense. Could somebody please put a helmet in Vince Young's chest? The guy looked like an impala on the Serengeti effortlessly breezing by the clown-shoe wearing USC defenders. Classy guy though, soft-spoken and going to be a terrific pro.

Unbelievable game featuring unbelievable athletes playing very, very hard. It's hard to imagine a better National Championship game than this one.

This game was all that it was billed. So many times you tune in to these hyped matchups or heavyweight bouts to only be let down- last night was not the case. Ole Lance dropped a small ten timer on the Texas and Over parlay thinking these teams each score a zillion points, I couldn't see USC stopping Vince Young and the I HATE PETE CARROLL FACTOR. But after one quarter and 3 turn overs, including a fumbled punt and egregious attempted lateral by Bush the score is 7-0 and the over is not looking to damn good. And my misery continues as Brown inexplicably continues to try and run off tackle on first and second down, and move the ball around to his tight end. A horrible 3 and 4 call in which Young tosses back to Thomas well short of the first inside the 20 leads to a missed field goal and the Lanceman is tossing cans at the TV. Finally however, Brown starts to let Young take over. He scores on a run around end, and continues to pick apart the USC secondary. Leinart not to be out done keeps duelling and White keeps pounding up the middle for 7 to 8 per clip. Bush finally breaks loose in the 4th for a high flying TD around right end giving the Trojans a 12 pt lead with 6 minues left. (more importantly if Young gets the Longhorns in the endzone it gives me 71 and the over plus I cover with Texas getting 7) Young comes through methodically taking his team down the field and scoring another TD. USC gets the ball back with a chance to ice the game but what is this? a 4th and long 2 at mid-field? And Carroll elects to go for it??? HHAAA!! And so it is... the ghosts of Dan Marino fakes spikes come back to choke Carroll's third title away from him. White comes up short. Young- the greatest ball player in college- takes his team 58 yards and caps off the drive with an 8 yard TD run with 19 seconds left. Giving the Lanceman the parlay and more money to bet in two weeks when he heads out to Vegas- yippie!! :-) ps. Did I mention how much I hate Pete Carroll? Man I hate that guy!

I have a whole new respect for USC after they totally shut down a really good Oklahoma team last year, but Texas is aware of that and Vince Young is pretty awsome. Because of the Sooner smashing last year Texas will be ready. Im not a Texas fan but hey...go Big 12!

What a game. Texas looks better on paper because of their defense, but Pete Carroll is a master at preparing USC for Bowl games and the Trojans got players who will will their team to win. Gotta go with the "Fight On" boys of Troy.

I gotta take Texas on account of my burning hatred of USC. (numbah makes a Leinart voodoo doll)

Finally, a National Championship Game with only 2 undeafted teams come bowl season. Between the two, they are high scoring teams with good defences. I am interested, though, how USC special teams will handle the blocked kick leading special teams of the Longhorns. MAD HATTER'S PICK: Texas Longhorns
