 | edt4 (103) 08/25/2007 | I think the word "hero" is one of the most overused in the American lexicon; these days it's applied to everyone from the dog catcher to the guy making up your sandwich at the local Quiznos. There are genuine "heroes" out there in the world, but they're rare...the fire-fighters at 9/11 come immediately to mind. Those few who sacrifice themselves to save others. To make a "hero" out of someone like Walt Disney...why is he a hero? Because of the corporate empire he gave his name to?...does a disservice to those who genuinely qualify. If everybody and his brother qualifies as a "hero", what real meaning can the word have? If Walt Disney is a "hero" for creating "Mickey Mouse", what does that make Segar, who created "Popeye"? A saint?

 | souljunkie (20) 12/07/2005 | My childhood would not have been near as fullfilled without his work. I still watch his movies and enjoy them as much as I did then. He was way ahead of his time.

 | sfalconer (21) 12/07/2005 | I think you have call him a hero, he could have made even more money by going after the adult market but he chose to stick with kids and family material. This guy is responsible of Disneyland, that makes him a hero in my book. Don't forget all the artwork the studio did for the armed forces during WWII.

 | EschewObfuscation (63) 12/07/2005 | Obviously, not many of us remember much of the story of his incredible life. The legacy he left to Americans and the world, will always stand as a testament to his vision and ingenuity. From the opening of the original Disneyland, his famous quote echoes from generation to generation, "To all who come to this happy place, welcome. "
