 | traderboy (25) 12/19/2005 | Just lifted this out of the "Bone Pit" (which is what I call my local Wal-Mart's center-aisle steel bin of $5.50 DVDs they're trying to move) a few weeks ago. I'd forgotten how much fun this movie was (what's more, I'd forgotten about the greased-up goodness of Geena Davis, backyard-poolside, in that hot-pink, two-piece teeny-'kini)! A spacey musical-comedy, it follows an extraterrestrial trio of fuzzy aliens (played by Jeff Goldblum and relative-unknowns Damon Wayans and Jim Carrey) who crash-land in Geena's pool and have to spend a weekend in L.A. before repairs can be made. Wayans and Carrey get (too far) into the 80s swing of things, and Goldblum develops the "hots" for Davis (who's looking for a way to break away from her philandering doctor boyfriend, the late Charles Rocket). The club dancing is a highlight (though I always wondered why Carrey didn't bother dancing along with Wayans, as anyone who's seen ONCE BITTEN knows what he's capable of doing), as are hairstylist friend Julie Brown's musical numbers and the televised ways the guys end up learning spoken Earthling culture. The movie's title initially drew some pissy rancor from wrong-wing prigs, but it wasn't made with them in mind, anyway; EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY is just skippy frivolity that "alienates" in a pleasant way.
