His writing is consistently relevant to people's lives and he uses humor enough to keep it interesting, but no so much to distract from the importance of the topic.

Absolutely, hands-down my favorite conservative columnist. Very non-confrontational, his is the style capable of recruiting wavering democrats across the abyss. He writes with an optimism, more focused on identifying what is good and wholesome about the conservative view. As former Nixon speechwriter (and the former token conservative at the NY Times) William Safire nears retirement, the torch is being passed to Brooks. He will carry it capably.
