They go good together, but sometimes I like beanless chili. It just depends on the mood I'm in. If I know I'm going to be around people, I usually skip the beans.

My Triple Threat can go either way, and of course I'd leave them if I wanted to do a competition, but I kinda like beans for my own eatin'...

As GTH mentions below, many chili purists claim that beans have no place in chili (of course they also tend to say the same about tomatoes), but I always put beans in chili. I prefer pink, navy, or pinto beans. I never use kidney beans. Even though they tend to be fairly common in chili, I don't like the flavor they add.

I agree that chili and beans go together. However, I was at a chili fest in New Mexico one time and it an offense similar to treason to have beans in your chili!
