Can you get in trouble with the cops for a fistfight, or if it's self defence during school, can you get suspended or expelled?

Not as memorable as winning an egg-eating contest.

What I learned from it is that its pointless and haven't done it since I was 14 years old.

The number one lesson to be learned by winning a fight, or losing a fight for that matter, is that it was spretty stupid thing to do. Fighting for the sake of fighting is hazardous to your healih, eventually. Fighting to defend yourself or your family is another thing altogether. Whatever the reason though, if you are going to fight, fight to win.

I don't know what you learn by winning. I almost feel sorry for some of the people I have beaten on. There was only one exception. This guy that I really didn't get along with in the Marines was fun to whip. He had it coming every time and the real hilarious day for me was when I got promoted and he didn't. Then I didn't have to kick his ass anymore due to the fact that he wouldn't even look me in the eye. What fun would kicking his ass be after that?

never had to do that,and hopefully never will,violence does not solve anything,but self defense is a differnt subject,either way I would be out of luck I'd get clobbered.

That's stupid. The only way the fists should come out is if there is no other way and someone is coming against you or your family.

i hope i never have to find out. I would more than likely lose. I guess when I was a kid there were times another kid and i would smack each other. it never turned into a fist fight. I would rather not have to go through that kind of confrontation. I suppose if I am really pissed off at someone I could imagine it but not really have a fist fight.

I have thought about this one so often. Because in the past in high school, I felt I was a bit of a target for bullying. So I've always felt inadequate about my physical self and wandered how I would do in a fight. I have never been in any serious fights and the only sort I've ever been in were in primary school, which weren't that serious. In those days, I learnt martial arts and would of loved to be a really good fighter. But when ever I have had to stand up to someone (not physically) and when it came down to it, I always felt bad about what I'd done and in the end, I wandered whether it was really worth it. If I felt that bad after maybe just telling someone off, I would hate to know what the feeling would be like if I actually hurt someone and had to go to court, or I got hurt. I don't think it would be a very good feeling to win a fight because for a start, I am taught to be a peace maker from my Christian beliefs, but secondly, I don't like hurting anyone and I don't like the fact they could get revenge on me. Well a lot of people have had the experience where if they stand up to the bully, the'll leave you alone. That is not necessarily true especially more these days. If you fight a bully and win, these days, they will come back with ten of their mates and get revenge on you. Even if I did win, I think I would be looking over my shoulder from then on. I just hate the thought of fighting and overall, it would not be a satisfying experience. The only time this would ever be positive is if you were protecting a loved one from danger or protecting your house from a home invader, and as a result of you beating them to a pulp, the police caught them because of you, and they were put in jail where they belong. Or if you were defending a victim of crime from their attacker. Even then, it is still not a positive experience maybe apart from making you feel physically adequite. Fighting is not meant to be a positive experience.

Is there a winner, really? You both come away from it sore as hell, and probably madder then ever.

Growing up I use to fight all the time because I had to- I was small and an easy target for bullies. The greatest lesson I learned was that if you were unafraid to scrap with anyone and made it a battle soon people would be hesitant to scrap with you. As I got older I developed a large chip on my shoulder and started scrapping because I liked it- because I was angry and because I still thought I was the small little kid that everyone picked on (though I had grown to over 200lbs). Many of the later fist fight victories could have gone better unfought and saved me a couple trips into county court. (I also took up boxing which helped me channel the extra energy...LOL)

I wouldn't say I was exactly a seasoned streetfighter, but I've been in a few scuffles in my time. When I had them though, I was too addled by adolescent, hormone driven fury to gain any wisdom from them, regardless of the outcome. What I did learn, in time, is that when you look at it rationally, fist-fighting doesn't really prove one's manliness or mean anything in a grander sense. It's just a series of needless physical collisions, deleterious to the wellbeing of both parties.

Winning a self defense fight is rewarding because you get to walk away, did I say walk away? Yep, anything else is a real bummer. Winning a competition fight is a temporary high but there is a feeling of sadness for the loser, if you have feelings. I really don't like fighting, I guess because it goes against how I believe first and second... it simply hurts.

In my case they have been positive becasue I am proud to say that other than one time, my choice to fight was one I had made over days. All bullies that had it coming. There is nothing better than putting a bully in his place, knowing that the worst punishment is making him explain himself to all of his ignorant buddies the next day. In every case it was a dude bigger than me. I know thats gotta be hard on a guy, even a bully.
