08/07/2006 | maybe not this year, but the potential is always there, considering the constant instability in south asia. even more troubling is that both nations have nuclear weapons, although on the flip side of the coin, the potential of a nuclear exchange might prevent these two countries going to all out war, for the outcome might be too disasterous for both parties.
unfortnately the sitation in kashmir, like in many many former european colonies, is intractible due to border conflicts stemming from independence.

06/10/2006 | Let's get it over with! They have sparred with each other and fought over this patch of ground off and on since 1947.
If they nuke each other, then they can get it out of their system, and the result would be so terrible, that the drive against nucleur proliferation would gain great moral and politial impetus. The world would become safer for the rest of us.

12/26/2005 | Won't happen. India's got more sense than that, and right now Pakistan has a good thing going with the US where they can torture and oppress at will while we sell them bombers intended to attack the only democracy in the region.

12/25/2005 | The balance of power here created by the possession of nuclear weapons on both sides will keep this issue stabalized. India would easily win a conventional ground war but it is widely understood that the use of nuclear weaponry is not anathema in that part of the world and few have doubts Pakistan wouldn't launch them in an effort to "win" the war.
