 | blue47 (12) 02/14/2007 | is this the holiday where you put jesus, dressed in a red suit, under your pillow and he turns into a bunny who lays eggs?

BTW, the winter solstice is the 21st of December, not the 25th. If you're gonna cite something, get your facts straight. Also, all these people who make noise about Christmas being about the presents and Santa and commercial drivel need to turn off your TV more and settle in with your family for some quality time around a roaring fire, drinking hot chocolate and talking about the fun of Christmases past while enjoying the present. Christmas is as much about family time and giving as it is about receiving, and more so. We were given the best gift of all, and His birth seems to get lost in the hustle and bustle. Take time to slow down and savor all that Christmas can offer us.

 | Drummond (54) 12/28/2005 | Who cares when Jesus was really born? We don't have any records, so why not make a choice and why not the winter solstice, symbolizing the return of light?

 | Djahuti (54) 12/26/2005 | I hope that everyone enjoyed their holiday. This list is intended as an example of the many ways different cultures celebrate and honor the days of the year. There are a lot of similarities, and many ancient Holy Days have been adopted and adapted to fit cultural shifts or political takeovers.Christmas is a prime example.Pagan Europeans, especially the Celts, had the ancient custom of Yule to celebrate the return of the Sun after it's decline. When Christianity came to Europe, the Church designated Christmas to celebrate the birth of the SON-since even those willing to adopt the new Religion did not want to give up the Holy Festivities of Yule.In fact, many biblical scholars now believe that the Historical Jesus was actually born sometime in the Spring. The gift-giving and Santa Clause myth came much later-but the Tree and Yule log go way back,as do the colors of Red and Green, which were associated with the Holly King and Oak King of Druid origin.
