Frank McGuire achieved greatness in the basketball world with 731 victories at three schools and the impact his program had on the state of South Carolina. He was able to break the hold of the Big three plus one schools in North Carolina over the ACC. By 1971, when USC left the conference, South Carolina was the feared team leaving Duke, UNC, and NCS to fight for second place. During those years, he made USC basketball the new religion of the state and for roughly nine years produced top ten teams. The only failure of those years was the inablity to advance to the final four, when he had teams that deserved to play for the national championship. That failure does not cast a shadow on McGuire's achievements in basketball.

Are you really serious? Better than John Wooden? McGuire was a fine coach, but he was no John Wooden. For exmaple, his career winning percentage was 70.0%, Woodens was 81.3%. McGuire won 1 national championship in 33 years, Wooden won 10 national championships in 40 years, McGuire. I'm not a fan of North Carolina, South Carolina, St Johns or UCLA, but give Wooden his due.
