Even back in the day when there was a concerted effort by some electronics manufacturers to get one into every home in the land, most people found themselves wondering how on earth such a cumbersome and poorly conceived product made it to market.

They had their time and place. They eliminated the scratchie sound of LPs, but replaced those sounds with having to cope with getting that tape back into the case. Moreover, the industry crushed my faith in technology when they failed to deliver the 8.5 lb 16 track tapes.So...I'll just try and keep my 8-track workin' until they come up with somethin' better.

Easy softball pitch-Even you hardened fans with an 8-track of Billy Joel's "The Stranger" still in your garage as you work on your classic auto still must admit that your existence would have been just fine (fine) without these blips on the history of audio radar. . .

Despite what some people will tell you, they were low quality crap with bad sound. Nothing to miss about their demise.

I had one for some years a long time ago. the 8 track cassettes were big and bulky. they stuck right out of the player. and the music was poorly put together it had two sides and a lot of times a song was mid way through and it would stop and you would have to turn it over to hear the rest of the song. bad idea to do that. the cassettes took up a lot of room. and could crack easy. can see why these did not last long. when I got rid of mine I had to practically give those tapes away who would want them?
