He was very captivating and, I thought when I was very young, deeply complicated and interesting.  Little did I realize, like so many of his admirers, I was merely picking up on his ability to tap into his very real and myriad neuroses.  A little too slight for the description "hunk" but he did have a magnetism that could draw you in.  It was obvious looking back, how much James Dean wanted to pattern himself after this excellent actor - the troubled soul that women want to care for...though, for some reason, I don't think as many guys would want to kick Clift’s ass as they would Dean’s.
