Dont know that I really fault Carroll there, he wasnt thinking his team would be stopped....he was trying not to give the ball back to Texas...but he should have had Bush in there for the run...but hey, USC lost and that is a good thing!

You know, there's always some smartass who asks, "are you sure you don't want a Heisman Trophy winner (of which he had two to pick from) running or passing the ball in that situation? "

At that point in the game, it was a calculated risk that was the right call to make. You're in Texas territory and you have LenDale White , who has previously been bowling over Texas on fourth down and in short yardage situations. Make a first down and the game's practially over. Even if 'SC had the ball and didnt score, they'd have taken so much time off the clock that Young and Texas could not have driven for a final score. That call is what Champions do....go for the win in a big spot. They didnt make it, but you gotta take that chance in a spot like that. Fight On 'SC !

Running a single back without an adequate lead block right into the teeth of a defense normally gets as WTF from me to my imaginary defensive coordinator, when I pretend to be a head coach. If you need to get yards in a hurry, get a play that develops faster and exploits a hole in the defensive scheme, rather then hitting the proverbial brick wall.

Oh man... it was nice to the blundering Pete Carroll screw that one up. I hate that guy- all the rah-rah antics got him fired in New York and New England. He had to go coach kids because he can't relate to adults and when the pressure's on he melts like the Wicked Witch. I give it to him for winning two titles and 37 straight but I couldn't help but chuckle watching him hands on his head in a state of confusion as Young marched his team down the field methodically picking (Carroll- the defensive genius') defense apart. All that was missing was a faked spike play to remind me a Marino chumping the Jets in 1994.

No it wasn't. It was calls of that nature that put USC in the position to win 3 consecutive national championships. Take away that mentality of going for the knockout punch and the Trojans would likely have been playing in the Sun or Holiday bowls the last two years. Besides, all the Southern Cal defense had demonstrated for most of the preceding 58 minutes is that it was largely incapable of stopping the Longhorn's offense.

Bush got to stand there and watch a brain dead call come up short while I laughed.
