 | DrEntropy (40) 03/03/2006 | Russia has a long history of anti-semitism (most of its Jewish population has left for Israel or North America) as well as fear and suspicion towards its Muslim minorities, especially Chechens (not surprising, given recent events). However, the steamroller of Communism generally reduced all those outside the circle of power to a relative equality of poverty, especially the lack of personal choice as to education and residence (mass dispersion of ethnic minorities in Russian areas, several families sharing apartments). Combined with the absence of restriction on racial inter-marriage, Russia has avoided the formation of racially distinct ghetto districts, as exist in the US and many other parts of the world.
