 | Molfan (57) 01/19/2006 | I agree with CastleBee. they are very much aware of their size. i have no doubt they get the opposite reaction from some jerk who thinks it is their job to make a nasty remark for them to hear. they have just as much of a right to eat out as anyone else.It is really none of our business what they eat.

 | SharonParry (42) 01/19/2006 | They don't need my compassion. They can make their own choices and I have nothing to say about it. On the other hand, if I have a loved one who seems to have a food addiction, it is a good idea to try and explain what the consequences might be if they continue to over eat. Once said, I will still leave the choice to them and not harp on it.

 | CastleBee (81) 01/18/2006 | Most of these folks are not looking for your pity/compassion or your attention. Just leave them alone - if anyone is aware of their problem THEY are and they are the only ones who can fix it. Falls under the heading of 'None of Your Business'.

 | CherrySoda99 (29) 01/18/2006 | It's a shame that they feel the need to eat all the time, but there are ways you can eat all you want, and still be a healthy weight.

 | AndrewScott (71) 01/18/2006 | Though I am fortunate to be thin, I am in no position to judge people at the buffet line. I found out at age 28 that I have high cholesterol, which was a shock for someone who has always exercised regularly and has good eating habits on most days.
Of course I would be compassionate here, just like I would anybody else. Giving compassion to neighbors doesn't cost us anything. We can also be compassionate without encouraging unhealthy habits.
If the personal circumstances are especially troubling, the right words of compassion might be "Because I like having you in my life, I can't support you going against your doctor's advice."
