Arguably the most obscure player in the Hall, a defensive wizard of the late 19th/ early 20th century with the good Cleveland club of the 1890's, very briefly with the Cards, and mostly for the Browns. Started out with a good stick in the high hitting 1890's, but his averages fell to earth, though he was often among the league leaders in Rbi's. Somewhat comparable to Rabbit Maranville, but a better hitter. Managed unsuccessfully, and actually started out on the mound. Not a great one, but certainly better than the obscurity that awaited him in later times. At one point, he was the highest paid player in the game, and did well with business investments during and after his career.
