Directed by Frank Capra, they are, as Jed points out, brilliant.

It questions whether American foreign policy is based on military supremacy. I'd give this one a 3* rating. Not bad but not great either.
The earlier "Why We Fight" documentary is a series of seven separate films commissioned by the US government in 1943 and directed by legendary filmmaker Frank Capra. That particular series is nothing short of extraordinary. Beautifully shot in crisp black & white and seamlessly edited, the purpose of the documentary was to inform the public about why we entered the war, what our goals were, and what such a massive undertaking entailed. Obviously it was government propaganda; but propaganda of a somewhat benign sort. Meant more to inform rather than to influence. Sort of a morale booster for the people who had loved ones risking their lives overseas. Whatever the ultimate purpose of the films may have been, that in no way diminishes from the brilliance of the filmmaking. Definitely worth seeing and an easy 5*.
