I think more correctly, this would be a reason to join RIA. Besides I really do want to share with others my vast knowledge of dog food, facial cleansers and Canadian Folk/Rock from the late 70's - and my wife and kids are tired of listening to me go on and on about it.

Sometimes it's fun to watch the attention-seekers self-destruct. Other times....not so fun.

for a few that could be a reason.{ not implying that i could name names} i stay here because it is nice to get a bit of attention. and be "heard" . yes it is nice to be here. hope i am not too sad of a person.haha!  i like giving my attention to others on here see what they have to say.

What better way to draw attention to yourself than to keep your name at the top of the recent reviews list, even if it's just a half baked opinion nobody in their right mind would agree with.... Let's see, how many posts does that give me today?

No, that's the reason I stay on RIA.

When you really think about it, it does seem strange to announce your departure from an Internet BB. And, yes, I think, in some cases, it might be a cry for attention/validation/ maybe even help - which, of course, more often than not, backfires by putting that person on the barbed end of someone's sophomoric sarcasm (usually ironically someone who is needy in a similar way). Occasionally though, people will decide to leave just because they think theyve been around the place too long and its time to move on. So, they announce this intention because, after a certain amount of time, and having built up a sense of community, it seems less rude to say goodbye rather than just disappear - leaving people to wonder if you just got bored or are actually a dead skunk in the middle of the road.

I think some people do leave to see if anyone will miss them and beg them to come back but with that said I also believe there are those who do leave and come back with no hidden agenda. I think sometimes people get tired or have personal problems that force them to take a break. At the time they may feel that they need to break away completely from RIA. Then when their personal issues clear up or the situation is not quite so dire they realize they miss RIA and choose to come back.
