 | Djahuti (54) 01/26/2006 | Yes.The freedom to speak your mind or create art that expresses your OWN ideas,even if they contradict the "status quo"-is the hallmark of a truly free country.However,the freedom of speech loses a lot of it's punch if you lose the right to peaceful assembly.

 | souljunkie (20) 01/24/2006 | I will go ahead and give these items high marks because we Americans pride ourselves in accomplishing these ideals. This one like so many on this list can be debated. Yes you can 'express' yourself as compared with the mentality of some third world nations and less developed nations, but in my opinion we are far from really free to say what we want to say in many areas of day to day life. You will pay a price at work and other places for saying something that is not "politically correct". Which to me just means you cannot speak the truth if it is an issue that has been added to the very long and stupid list of PC issues.

 | Drummond (54) 01/23/2006 | For the time being, we're doing pretty well by this. Even better than most other democracies. We're one of a very few countries where the burden of proof is on the state to suppress expression, not the other way around.
