 | Wavebacker (25) 01/22/2006 | This is the sort of Draft where the Eagles could really restock themselves for a return to prominance in 2006 and beyond. The Good News is that the Eagles have a high pick and more time to evaluate players. The Bad News is that their past Drafts havent always been great. The team really needs to bring in some young guys who can be a part of the future.
Knowing Andy Reid , he will pick a guy in the first round none of us expect. Reid likes to Draft for the future, bringing in a guy who can sit a year and start in his second season. Eagle fans can see the areas of need : O-Line, D-Line, LB , RB. The Offensive line is probably where Reid will go in the first round, Drafting a stud tackle or guard who can replace John Runyan or allow starter Andrews to move to tackle. D-Line needs help as well. Patterson was good, but a young, run stuffer who can help generate a pass rush from the interior would be great. There are also some really good Def. Ends and the Eagles might look at that spot. I absolutely love USC's Lendale White as an Eagle. He's a big back who can move the pile, carry the ball some and take the load off of Westbrook and Moats. He's the guy the Eagles should take. If there was a stud LB available, the Eagles should consider a First round pick of an outside LB, someone with the speed to rush the passer and also cover.
Of a lesser need, but also critical are WR and QB. The Eagles could use a good WR.Reggie Brown looks like the real deal, but get another kid in now to match with him and the Passing attack will be awesome in the future. The current set of WR's are so-so. The Eagles really need to groom a good QB for the future. Anday Hall is around, but he's taxi squad material. This season proved just how essential a quality back-up is. If I'm Reid, I'd take Pitt's Tyler Palko, a kid who has talent, yet was on a poorly coached team. He played in a West Coast Offense and can learn the ropes from Reid. It just makes sense. Take him and sign a FA QB better than the awful Mike McMahon ( Jay Fielder ). There's a quality RB in Wali Lundy at UVa who I would take a look at and a tackle machine LB at Tulane named Anthony Cannon who would be a late-round steal.
