Very low budget, and low production quality somehow improves this very interesting horror film that steps outside the genre.  There's an underlying theme of broad despair in the film, and a critique of authority and power that reflects the attitude of the time, in much the way that the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" or "On the Waterfront" were broad allegories.

The film is well worth watching, despite its technical flaws and some pretty bad acting.

The 1990 remake isn't worth a shit.  Its a simplistic, nihilist fantasy, made for morons.

This is classic stuff,the old black and white movies are really to me the best.

This film drags in the middle. That one and only flaw aside, this is a masterpiece that spawned hundreds of zombie movies...thank God! 4 and a half stars
