I find alcohol in sufficient quantities helps a great deal with this.

People come to RIA for many different reasons. For me, it's certainly always fun to read people's take on different subjects, except dog food, grizz, pop stars, etc...Don't know why people say that it isn't as fun anymore. Perhaps its that a lot of old regulars aren't coming around as much anymore. Some definitely like establishing camaraderie with different people here, and that's certainly a positive aspect of an online community. But that shouldn't be the only reason to come here either. Socializing with people face to face is much better than doing it over the internet. This is a great medium for creative expression. That's primarily why I come here. The site has always been a solid platform to give and exchange different ideas with people interested in understanding or learning. If someone thinks the site has gotten boring or uninteresting, make an effort to start writing quality reviews and get a trend going. RIA is as good or interesting as the reviewers who contribute.

Agree with Chalky. If something like this is not fun Anymore, leave. There are many other ways to Procrastinate.

I've been on RIA for over five years, and I'm reviewing now more than ever. It's a great outlet for me---from when I'm happy to when I'm sad. That being said, if it's not fun for someone then it's a good reason to take a break.

I can understand the reasoning behind suspension of an activity that no longer provides enjoyment or inspires. However. .. News Flash- Americans do not require constant entertainment during all conscious moments every day. . .

Personally, I have been having loads of fun lately. Exposing BS reduces the risk of others stepping in it.
Wiseguy 02/16/2009
Fun? There are times when the humor of Ridge, or GDS make me glad I logged on that particular day. Otherwise, fun isn't a factor with regard to me staying, or leaving.

Well holy shit, numbah got his fun back. About a month ago it wasn't so, but in losing my street cred and getting absolutely dick for helpfuls anymore, I have rediscovered my fun. In finding my fun I find myself, for to be numbah is to have fun. *sniff* Now I gotta stop before I get all emotional and shit...

I haven't been rating as much the last few days as this place has started looking like a politics forum. All I see are Victor, Wiseguy, and SilverFox chasing each other around in circles, with a few of the other more politically minded reviewers throwing in their two cents worth here and there. I happen to more or less agree with what a lot of the more conservative reviewers such as Victor or Wiseguy are saying, but I just don't enjoy debating it ad nauseum. EO has put in some decent stuff, but as good as it is, I'm getting tired of that as well. I'm just tired of politics, and I'd be surprised if I was the only one around here feeling the same way. I know other topics will come into discussion eventually, and I've been searching around for some more interesting lists, but if I was a newer reviewer, and I just looked at my feed, the last week or so would make me strongly consider leaving.

UPDATE 2: Hello everyone, I'm still around. I'm just taking a break. Thanks everyone for the kind words expressed to me... UPDATE: I have recently lost interest in RIA. I guess I need a break from it. Maybe the desire to participate will return someday. I have enjoyed meeting and talking to my RIA cyber friends. God bless!

If this is the reason, I suggest another website.

1) I seen better drama in my cake decorating class than on Rateitall
2) The weirdos are attracted to me like bees to a honey.
3) I rated everything except for dogfood!
4) Rateitall is bad for my eyesight and giving me carpal tunnel syndrome.
5) The Mean Girls won't play nice with me with anymore. Sniff!

Best reason I can think of...you don't have fun here than you DO need to leave.
James76255 02/27/2008
It kind of ties in with other things on the list. Most people just get burned out and need to take a break rather than just leave for good.
LastMessenger3 07/14/2007
As long as there are raters, it's fun enough for me!
Jed1000 06/21/2006
I agree that is's not as much fun as it once was. Wish I could put my finger on why that is but I can't. Maybe the problem isn't RIA at all.. maybe it's me. I do think that, while much of the commentary is still very good, the quality of the weblists themselves has gone down. With the exception of some very good music oriented lists I haven't seen anything that sparked my interest for quite some time now. I suppose it's like anything else. The more you get - the more you want, and you always want something better than you had before. Maybe I've just been here too long. Or maybe I'm just in a bad mood.

I speak from experience by simply voicing my opinions. For some odd reason, my opinions were forcibly removed from this site! Yikes what did I do to piss someone off! This is America dudes, what happened to freedom of speech? Good news however, I've been on this site incident free for 3 days now yes!!
kamylienne 01/24/2006
Yeah, okay, I miss a few of the reviewers that are no longer posting, and due to lack of interest I've been coming on less and less. Eventually, I'll probably move on (hold your applause, folks, I'm not going anywhere quite yet . . . )
