The only problem with this series is that it was all a lie! Ho, hum. So goes PC.

I'm old enough to remember this when it first came on in the 70's. Multiple quality performances from a whole slew of actors. In some ways, Roots is the reason that miniseries, as a form of television presentation/entertainment, proliferated. Roots is somewhat to miniseries what Survivor was to reality television.

An incredible work by Alex Haley about the lineage from Kunta Kinte to himself. Kinte was his last ancestor from Africa, enslaved but never surrendering the idea of freedom, and the transmittal of that value from generation to generation. An excellent account of one of the more tragic aspects of our history from the eyes of a tough family. Should be mandatory for high school graduation.
