They don't do it to look cool, they do it because their parents frustrate the hell out of them. Often, parents frustrate the hell out of them because the parents are doing what they think is best. It's a normal part of growing up, it's how kids let their parents know that they aren't babies any more. Parents have to learn to see it for what it is, but continue to do their jobs as parents. It doesn't make it any eaiser that the teenagers dress weird and don't want to know about what it was like when I was their age.

I don't think a lot of kids do this to "look cool". I think they just do it because they are teens ~ and we ALL know ~ teenagers know EVERYTHING and parents know NOTHING!

WOW! Im sorry for sounding rude in advance but sometimes arguing is neccesary, to get thoughts out instead of bottling them up inside... teens are ever changing and you people are unintelligent for believing that arguing makes you a complete fool... ever wonder why this country is a god d*mn mess?

Early in life I developed a very strong sense of who I was, so to change my mind was very hard to do. My mom was and is very understanding and easygoing, but my dad ...

Some people are argumentative by nature so arguing isn't too stupid. It's what you're fighting over that makes an argument stupid.

My mom - "Rock concerts aren't for 15-year-olds!" Me - "Uh-huh, sure. . .rock concerts are for middle-aged parents then, right?" I still got grounded for that line. . .but it was worth it and we laughed years later. . .

Not only normal, but essential. It's part of personal growth, and developing indepedence.

Unfortunately it is normal.Teens fight with their parents. This has been a fact throughout time. I argued with my mom all through my teen years, and I'm quite certain that my kids will argue with me.

I don't think it's necessarily to look, "cool" as it is more about thinking they are ready for certain responsibilities that aren't being granted to them, probably for lack of showing enough maturity.

This is not done to look cool, but as a power struggle that he or she (any given teen) should lose. Asserting themselves, even in the most trivial situations, gives them (perceived) leverage the next time something really important is in question.
