Harry Hooper 3

Hooper is in the bottom ranks of Hall of Famers are far as meriting induction goes, and really doesn't belong there. That doesn't mean he wasn't a good player, he was a pretty good hitter, stole bases, and was from all accounts a terrific right fielder, and a clutch hitter as well. A member of four Series winners in Boston in the 1910's, and part of an outfield with Duffy Lewis and the great Tris Speaker that was one of the greatest outfields of the first half of the 20th century. When nefarious Red Sox owner Harry Frazee starting selling off his stars,he did not go to the Yankees like most of them did. Instead, he was sold to the White Sox in 1921 and played there for five years on a bad team depleted by the 1919 fix. Eventually elected to the HOF, his biography may be available in some libraries, I got it out of the UMass library about a decade ago and it's a fine read, filled with interesting information for baseball buffs of the era. Hooper is regarded as the first outfielder to actually wear sunglasses out on the field.
