I watch this to look at Ingrid and then I wait for the counterpoint between "La Marseillaise" and "Die Wacht am Rhein." My attention flags until Major Strasser gets shot, and they round up the usual suspects. I like the black and white and overlook the lefto Spanish Civil War boo hooing. I hate the flashbacks that were the rage in 1940's movies.

This is of course the grandmother of all chick movies, setting the mold for romance film. But it's so much more than a romance. It provides a chilling portrayal of Nazi occupied French colonial Africa and other historical content. May belong in the top 10 movies of all time.
