A liberal deconstructive version of High Noon. A romance between a frontier enterpreneur and the owner of a brothel set into the context of mining companies willing to kill to advance their interests. The three bad guys who show up to kill the upstart played by Warren Beatty are some of the most chilling villains in cinema - they were so real! Lots of substories that depict the attempts to retain some level of civilization where there is very little power to enforce law and order, and very little to maintain social decencies and traditions. Ostensibly takes place in Oregon, but filmed in BC Canada. They actually created a town during the movie.
