Many varieties exist. Some countries and organizations keep dropping the low candidate until a candidate reaches a majority. This is called an elimination ballot system. France uses a two ballot system. A majority is required in the first election. In the second election, it is first past the post or plurality. (See top-two runoff in this list.)
