 | minkey (36) 03/31/2006 | There's been some problems discovered recently regarding the health benefits of alcohol. The study that had us all thinking that moderate drinkers have lower risks of heart disease than non-drinkers has some loopholes. The studies lumped former drinkers who had since quit into the same category as non-drinkers. So, ex-alcoholics, ex heavy drinkers who had sustained damage to their organs were considered non-drinkers...when you average them in with people who never drank at all, you obviously skew the results of the study. People who had been moderate drinkers for years did not sustain much damage, making their organs look healthier than the supposed "non-drinker" group. Thus, the study made the inaccurate hypothesis that their better health was the result of moderate alcohol consumption.

 | Vudija (92) 02/06/2006 | I see that people made sure to mention the wine idea. It means I don't have to mention it again. Anyway, I'm not old enough to drink, but I can still have my ideas on this. I don't drink and never will. Living with someone, as a child, who came home most nights smelling of alcohol; I'm now traumatized by even the smell of alcoholic drinks. I actually get sick to my stomach being around someone who is/was drinking something.

 | HistoryFan (98) 02/06/2006 | A glass of wine every now and then is said to be good for the heart. Even the Bible says that a little wine is good for the stomach (but then again, they didn't have water filtration systems back then).
Excessive drinking can cause liver failure and alcohol poisoning.

 | Drummond (54) 02/05/2006 | Once heard though that a glass of wine every couple of days may actually increase life spans, although I always caution that correllation is not necessarily causation.

 | numbah16tdhaha (148) 02/01/2006 | This promotes good health? I doubt it, because no drinking and bad mental health have been linked. (at least I have linked them)

 | TB 303 (5) 02/01/2006 | As we all know a couple glasses of wine or a couple beers is said to actually be beneficial.

 | zuchinibut (36) 01/31/2006 | Of course you need to limit alcohol consumption. Liquor is enjoyable, but will destory your stomach and liver if you consume too much. Not to mention that its a depressant, and at times will keep you on your ass instead of out enjoying life and exercising.

 | SharonParry (42) 01/31/2006 | Again, some helpful advice from daedalus and Shane. Actually alcohol may have some benefits and modest use is the key, although some people should not touch it all, namely alcoholics, problem drinkers, and, self medicaters.

 | daedalus (33) 01/30/2006 | Limit it, but still have some. A beer or two per day (or the equivalent in wine or spirits) probably has some beneficial anti-oxidant properties. More than that amount though and you reverse the effect.
