A gem of a city. Some of the sights, and the atmosphere, are incomparable. My wife and I went there in the fall a few years back, and it was really pleasant. You could spend weeks taking in the sights. A bit pricey all around. Food was good to great. Another "must see" city along the Danube. An unforgettable experience.

The reason why Vienna is so great and magnificent is that it was the capital of a great empire for hundreds of years. Of all the places to visit on the Danube, Vienna has to be at the top of your list. I have written elsewhere about the two great seiges of Vienna, 1529 and 1683, by the "religion of peace" Mohammedan Turks and I shall not trouble you here with a repetition. Suffice it to say, without Vienna's mighty resistance to aggression, Paris and maybe even London would have been converted to Islamic "paradises" long before this time.
