This is a nice little city in Swabia, in southwester Bavaria, Germany. It has been the site of several battles and incidents. It is historically important to Germany as the site of one of the incidents which led to the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). In 1606, the Lutheran majority barred the Catholic residents of the town from holding a procession, causing a violent riot to break out. This was symptomatic of the violence that caused Germany to lose over 70% of its population between 1618 and 1648. Bavaria was particularily hard hit by the killings especially from Swedish troops under Gustavus Adolphus. Today Donauwörth rests peacefully with about 20,000 population.
