I too loved The Boomer, a great fielder before he got fat, and a powerful slugger in his prime with Boston and Milwaukee, actually, his very best seasons were with Milwaukee in the mid -70's, when he was one of the more fearsome sluggers in the league. A funny player with some memorable quotes. Kind of similar to the later Red Sox first baseman Mo Vaughn as a hitter, though a much better fielder. According to Peter Gammons' terrific "Beyond the Sixth Game," Scott once said "If it hadn't have been for that mother****** Luis Aparicio, ( a great shortstop, noted for his fielding prowess) I'd have had 3,000 hits." Gammons wryly remarked something to the effect of: "That means Aparicio robbed Scott of 1,008 hits."

The "Boomer" was a man of "Ruthian" proportions. The baseball digest lists him at 6 feet two inches tall and an even 200 pounds. They must have weighed him when he was in 9th grade! The Boomer that I remember was around 260 or 280 and had the slickest glove of any first baseman in baseball. I think he snagged about a half dozen gold gloves before he completely surrendered to the dinner plate that made him the man he was to become in baseball. He went from a guy who could hit, field, and eat, to a guy who could, eat, hit and field. He was still fun, but this time more in the "jolly" sense. I loved the Boomer and it was he who gave the homerun it's nickname "taters." He had a shell necklace he claimed was made of second baseman's teeth. A good interview and certainly worth a few laughs on the way to a few "taters." You would love to have had a George Scott on your team.
