I remember seeing this execution on the nightly news (NBC) and mostly remember the blood running down the street after Van Lem was killed. Quite vivid and shocking to say the least...

It was during Tet. I remember it well. Of course I was not anywhere near Siagon where this happened. I was in Can Tho some miles south. As they say, you've had to been there. We had been told so much of the BS we hear now. We are winning the heartrs and minds, the Vietnamese love us and want out help. If we don't fight those godless commies here in southeast Asia, we'll have to do it on Main Street, USA. Then Tet. We were over ran with North Vietrnames Regulars. The US and it troops we shocked, taken aback. of course "we won" but we lost the American people. The picture is the beginnig of the end for a brutal, useless war. And YES 50K+ lives of my generation were wasted for nothing. I volunteered, did my duty and got a huge wake up call. I trust none of them...

I didn't need the picture with this one because its already burned into my brain. It reminds me that war is indeed hell.

pretty unnerving to see a photo where a human life is taken right in front of the camera. and it actually got published. one of the more "famous" pictures from the Vietnam war.
