I listened to the Arctic Monkeys for the first time this week, and I have had them on steady rotation since. Powerful, driving music with the self confident swagger of bands like Suede, the fast paced punch of the Fratellis, and lyrics that remind me of Pulp.

Overhyped, overrated, derivative poor man's 70s punk/new wave rip off merchants. In a word, sh*te.

Bird 808 - I see you live in the UK. If you dont think they've been overhyped you must've been abroad these last 2 years. Little about them is original. Bands like the Fall, Buzzcocks, Undertones were doing this kind of thing way back..and much better too - singing in regional accents with lyrics about the banalities of everday life with fast buzzsaw rhythm guitars.

One of the better bands to come along in recent years. Very high energy, unique vocals. Riot Van is a great track.

I don't think their over-hyped at all. I actually think their one of the best bands to come out for a while and when you consider their only in their early 20's with some bands much older than themselves who've worked all their lives who haven't even achieved that standard of music it really is quite impressive. I don't understand some of the reviewers on RIA at all. You have some of the best bands; Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol, Oasis, The Killers, Blur, The Gorrilaz, The Klaxtons, Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and a number of others who are rated low or not rated at all (The Libertines, Jamie T, Willie Armstrong, Razorlight) and then you have the crap merchants at the top. Either people are making controversial decisions to get attention or they just simply aren't ready for good music.

Heard they weren't doing so well in America. That's the USAs loss, then. Brilliant stomping basslines, unique melodies and lyrics like "Those that claim that they're not showing off are DROWNING in DENIAL" and "All the weekend rockstars are in the toilets, practisising thier LINES". Maybe a bit immature with thier material at the moment but that's likely to change as they get some experience and as they grow up a bit. They're still only pretty young.

A lively punkish band from Northern England, the press has been going mad about them. The album is growing on me epecially when you listen properly to the lyrics. Definetely worth a listen.
