Depends on your last name. I think names should have at least a semblance of ethnic or linguistic integrity. If your last name is either Italian or Spanish than Alphonso is fine. If your last name is something like O'Grady or Fassbinder then I'd avoid Alphonso.

By ethnic...do you mean black? I am white, and if I were to go with a black name, I would definitely be more creative. He would definitely be named something like Dartavius or Tre'vontae.
