I just can't stand the name Alexander, and I don't feel like I need any logical reason for it.

Unbelievably, my fellow alumnus and I have found a name upon which we can agree. Alexander/Alex is solid. It's dignified and strong. One of my friends named his second son Alex(ander).

Alexander or Alex works as a full name or a shortened name. Alexander has more distinction to it, but Alex is a great was to shorten it while still having a good name.
