This was a big story for a couple weeks, but has sort of fallen off the radar a lot. If more names are brought out in court, this could become an even bigger story.

Ouch. As touched on earlier, this is all going to depend on Gretsky's involvement...people will indeed forget about Rick Tocchet, or at least it will turn into a minor nuisance of a memory. However...if the Great One turns out to be involved, we have the Pete Rose scandal of hockey. What's worse, is that hockey simply cannot afford to have to rebound from something like this. I hate to say that the NHL is "skating on thin ice" but they are doing some ice fishing in New England at the end of March because of last season's strike, not to mention their already narrow fan base. It would really be a shame to think that Gretsky would put his and hockey's lives on the line due to some completely idiotic gambling ring, but stranger things have happened.

I think this story will become increasingly significant as Gretzky's role becomes more clear. According to reports today, Gretzky's wife had placed up to $500K in sports bets with Tocchet in recent weeks. Law enforcement officials have also claimed that Gretzky knew about the gambling ring. Yet another case of "What were these people thinking?"
